Sarah A. Anderson

Sarah A. (Mahon) Anderson, 97, died May 24 in Medway.
Born in Boston, she grew up in Hyde Park. After graduating from Hyde Park High School, she went on to work at Liberty Mutual where she became a supervisor.
After her marriage, she moved to Milton where she raised her two daughters and became a homemaker.
Mrs. Anderson was an avid gardener and one of her favorite hobbies was working in the rock garden. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed bird watching. She grew many vegetables for her family and canned peaches and pears.
She loved being outside. The ocean was one of her favorite places and during the summer she spent many hours at the beach. She was also a Girl Scout leader.
Along with her husband, she enjoyed bowling,
and they were active in the Hyde Park Senior
Citizens Club.
Wife of the late Elmer M. Anderson, she is survived by her daughters, Karen Svendsen and her husband, Carl, of Franklin, and Cynthia Valente, of Maine; her grandchildren, Erik Svendsen and his wife, Selma, of Andover, Scott Svendsen, of North Carolina, Jesse Valente, of Boston, and Jody Valente, of Oregon; three great-grandchildren, Alan, Emma and Mia; her sister-in-law, Doris Mahon, of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Christiana Mahon, Clarence Mahon, Thomas Mahon Jr., Edith Mahon and Ada Mahon, and the mother-in-law of the late Ronald Valente.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
