Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, 77, died Aug. 25 at his home in Hyannis Port after a battle with brain cancer.
Flags all over the state and in many parts of the country were dropped to half-mast at the news of the death of the senior senator from Massachusetts.
He was a graduate of Milton Academy.
He was elected to the Senate in 1962, filling the seat his brother, John F. Kennedy, had left to become president.
The youngest of the children of Rose and Joseph Kennedy, he is survived by his wife, Victoria; his three children, Edward Kennedy Jr., U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, of Rhode Island, and Kara Kennedy Allen; two stepchildren, Caroline Raclin and Curran Raclin, and his sister, Jean Kennedy Smith. He also leaves a large extended family and many admirers.
Two weeks ago his sister Eunice Shriver died.
