Vincent J. Byrnes Sr., of Milton, died at home Nov. 25 surrounded by family.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a prisoner of war.
Husband of the late Dora (Cimo) Byrnes and former husband of the late Catherine T. (Burke) Byrnes, he was the father of Karen M. Fuoco, of Bellingham, Patricia A. Ellis, of Florida, Vincent J. Byrnes, Jr., of Bellingham, Kathleen T. Higgins, of Hyde Park, Edward J. Byrnes and Margaret M. Manning, both of Bellingham; stepfather of Grace Horenian, of Dedham, Dominic DeMonte, of Maine, Stephanie Kurpeski, of Quincy, Christine Spiliakos, of Peabody, Gerald DeMonte, of Plainville, and Michael DeMonte, of Dedham; and brother of Philip Byrnes, of Milton. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother the late Gordon F. Byrnes, Charles M. Byrnes and Carol Hickey.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary
of the Hills Church on Dec. 1. Burial was in
Milton Cemetery.
