Vito T. Spoon, of Roslindale, died at Deutsches Altenheim (“the German Home”) in West Roxbury on July 27.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and a 1965 graduate of Northeastern University.

A mechanical engineer, he retired in 2008 from B.E.A., formerly Lockheed Martin.

Mr. Spoon was a Vietnam Era Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Port Norfolk Yacht Club in Dorchester.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie (Peterson) Spoon, his children, Andrea C. Spoon and her husband, Gerry Creiger, of Sutton, Valerie Devincentis and her husband, Jim, of Weymouth, and Jean Calisi and her husband, John, of Walpole, his sister, Mary Sealy, of Louisiana; his grandchildren, Samantha, Antonia, Jacqueline, Barbara, Giovanni, Sondra and Gianna; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Frank Spoon and Catherine Toffoloni.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Aug. 1. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
