Walter J. Phinney, 70, of Milton, died March 31 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Dorchester High School. He received his engineering degree from Northeastern University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Suffolk University.
Mr. Phinney was employed at Raytheon Data Systems and Missile Systems. For several years, he taught engineering graphics at Northeastern University.
A resident of Milton for over 37 years and a summer resident of Harwich, he was a member of the Raytheon Golf League and an active member of the St. Ann’s Band of Neponset, Dorchester.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arlene C. (Needham) Phinney; his children, Julie Marotta and her husband, Robert, of Milton, and Walter J.T. Phinney, also of Milton; his grandchildren, Matthew Marotta, Timothy Marotta and Christopher Marotta, all of Milton; and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church on April 4. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
