Walter T. McGovern

Walter Thomas McGovern, 92, of Wareham, formerly of Milton, a retired advertising director at the Boston Herald, died April 11 in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
Born in Wellesley, he graduated from Wellesley High School and attended Northeastern University. He served in the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade during World War II.
Mr. McGovern worked at the Herald for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1983.
A resident of Milton from 1954 to 1983, he was a member of the St. Elizabeth Church Holy Name Society. In 1983, he relocated to Hamilton Beach in Wareham, where he had summered for many years.
He was a member of The Newspaper Guild.
Husband of the late Catherine (Donovan) McGovern, he is survived by his sons, Walter T. McGovern Jr. and Mark M. McGovern, both of Wareham; his grandchildren, Elizabeth R. McGovern, of New York City, and Margaret D. Traidman, of Chicago; his daughter-in-law, Suzanne T. McGovern, of Darien, Conn.; a niece; and a nephew.
He was the brother of the late Arthur McGovern.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, Wareham, on April 15. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

The Dolan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
