William J. Day, of Milton and Falmouth, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on Feb 11.
Born in Boston, he grew up in South Boston and lived in Dorchester, as well as Falmouth, prior to his move to Milton. He graduated from South Boston High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Boston State College and earned his master’s degree from Lesley College.
Mr. Day retired from his position as an engineer at Verizon in 2003 after a 30-year employment.
He was a Vietnam veteran of the Navy SeaBees, a member of the McKeon Post in Dorchester, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Roche) Day; his mother-in-law, Margaret Roche, of Dorchester; his brother, John M. Day and his wife, Bridget, of Norwood; his cousin, Mary Beth McMullen, of Norwood; his in-laws, Margaret Gaudreau, Roger Gaudreau and James Roche, all of Braintree, Patricia Doyle and Edward Doyle, of Easton, Paul Roche and Elaine Roche, and Kathleen Cloonan and Steven Cloonan, all of Milton, and Anne Marie Leary and Richard Leary, of Westwood; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Walter M. Day and Anna Day, and the son-in-law of the late James Roche.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Agatha Church on Feb. 16. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
