4/2/09
On a happier but just as serious note, we’d like to take a few moments to remind you about a great event that’s happening this Friday, April 3.
On that date, the Friends of Mike Madden Committee – in conjunction with IBEW Local 2222 and Milton Travel Soccer – will hold a fund-raiser for Milton High School soccer coach Mike Madden at 7:30 p.m. at IBEW Local 103 Hall, 256 Freeport St., Dorchester. The fun-filled event will include raffles, prizes, live and silent auctions, and entertainment. Table sponsorships are available for $200 and the committee also will be putting together an ad book with quarter-page ads beginning at $75, half-page ads for $150 and full-page ads for $200.
Loyal readers of the Times are no doubt by now familiar with Madden’s story. A lifelong Milton resident who also coaches the Eastern Mass Red Devils and runs soccer camps for youths throughout the South Shore, he was partially paralyzed following surgery last November. The town already has shown its tremendous spirit by rallying behind the Maddens in a variety of ways.
Meanwhile, the coach has shown his own great spirit remains unbroken. In an interview that appeared in the Times on March 5, Madden joked that his wife “had twins” when referencing the fact that she was simultaneously dealing with the arrival of their newborn daughter, Michaela, and his new disability. He then laughed, “That’s the big bet: Who’s going to walk first, me or Michaela?”
Isn’t he the kind of guy you’d like to support?
To place an ad, e-mail donna.bohan@verizon.net. Tickets are $20 and can be ordered by sending a check to “Friends of Mike Madden” to Liberty Bay Credit Union, c/o Mike Madden Benefit Fund, 350 Granite St., Braintree, MA 02184.
