51 Officers
Deputized at Ceremony

5/7/09
The 51 officers of the Milton Police Department were all under one roof at the senior center April 30 to receive a double honor.
The officers were sworn-in as deputy sheriffs of both Norfolk and Suffolk counties during a special ceremony.
The distinction gives officers full arrest power in both counties.
Norfolk County Sheriff Michael Bellotti and Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral did the honors.
“It is an honor and a privilege,” said Bellotti. “I have a high appreciation of what you do for your community.”
Police Chief Richard Wells Jr. said the swearing-in extends the authority of Milton officers, who patrol “the largest abutting land to Boston.”
“This is very important to us,” said Wells. “Especially for our detectives. Investigations are becoming very much more mobile. Patrolling bike paths means constantly going in and out of Milton. This just enhances our authority to do that.”
Boston is in Suffolk County and Milton is part of Norfolk County.
