Much of the credit is due to the gifts and hard work of Birgit Danckert, the church’s Director of Christian Education since 1994.
“Things began to open up and grow after she arrived,” said Rev. Johnson. “She works very well with the teachers and the board, and always comes up with inspiring Christmas Pageants and Children’s Day dramas. She is blessed with many talents, one of which is playing the guitar and leading the children in singing. She’s the nerve center of the whole Christian Education ministry here.”
Ms. Danckert points to the many hands necessary to coordinate and run such a comprehensive program. “The parents, staff and members of the board, not to mention the whole church membership, really give a great deal of themselves in order to make this program work as well as it does. People come here and they tell us that they want their children to learn the basics of the Christian faith, how it touches their lives and their relationships with God and with other people. We work hard to provide that.”
