Grossman Will Be
Curry Speaker May 15

State Treasurer Steven Grossman will receive an honorary degree and serve as commencement speaker at Curry College’s commencement ceremony Sunday, May 15.

The college will award Grossman a doctor of humanities.

Grossman was elected treasurer last year. Previously, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of the Grossman Marketing Group, and its predecessor Massachusetts Envelope Co., a 100-year-old, fourth-generation family business.

Grossman has a long history of public service. He served as the chairman of both the Massachusetts Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee under President Clinton. He is a leading figure in numerous charitable and community organizations, serving as an advisory board member of the Women’s Lunch Place and as a founding board member of Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth.

Grossman is also a former campaign chair of Combined Jewish Philanthropies, a founding board member of the Lenny Zakim Fund, and a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Grossman is an honors graduate of Princeton University and the Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar. He and his wife, Dr. Barbara Wallace Grossman, share a commitment to higher education.

The treasurer previously served as the board chair of Brandeis University and was an advisor to ACCESS, a leading Boston provider of financial information and resources for young people seeking an affordable path to and through a postsecondary education. His wife is a professor at Tufts University, where she previously chaired the department of drama and dance.

The Grossmans have three sons: David, Ben and Josh.
