A full field of skilled golfers turned out at Wollaston Golf Club on June 13 to pay tribute to the memory of a friend.
The inaugural James McDonough Four-Ball Tournament brought elite golfers – including two PGA players – to town, as family and friends of McDonough, who died in an accident last February, created the tournament as a lasting tribute.

McDonough, who was the son of Dr. Jim and Peggy McDonough, grew up on Hillside Street and spent many hours playing golf at Wollaston.

He followed his passion for the game to national junior golf tournaments and to the Rollins College golf team in Winter Park, Fla.

Teammates, close friends and fellow competitors from McDonough’s golf career all took part in the tournament 10 days ago.

Assisting McDonough’s parents, the tournament was co-chaired by Brendan Mahoney, Jay Driscoll and Tyler Ferrari, who grew up playing golf with McDonough at Wollaston. Also co-chairing was McDonough’s friend, Tucker Skenderian.

The committee included many other residents, including Beirne Lovely, Paul Mahoney, Lenny Pepe and Robert Keegan.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit a scholarship fund at St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, where James graduated in 2005.

Winners of the tournament were Piri Borja, of Coral Springs, Fla.; and Adam Carlucci, of Franklin. Dave Bowen and Patrick Stapleton, both of Milton, won the net score division.
