Main Library
Reopens in April

(previous)
Construction of a 12,600-square-foot addition to the existing structure began in the summer of 2007.
“The original plan was to reopen in November or December [of 2008], but we’ve had various types of delays,” said McNulty. “We feel confident we can hit this new target date.”
McNulty said some lighting fixtures have to be installed in a few rooms, and wiring and building inspections have to be done first. In addition, the materials and furnishing have to be moved back into the building.
“But we’re pleased that the project is still coming in under budget,” McNulty said, although he was unable to provide an exact dollar amount.
The Kidder Branch library on Blue Hills
Parkway, which has reopened during the construction, will close its doors once the main branch
opens, McNulty said. The East Milton branch
will also reduce what have been extended hours of operation.
McNulty said new hours could be set after the new fiscal year, depending on the budget.
Special events planned for the weekend of reopening include: a children’s celebration day on Saturday, April 4, with activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and a dedication day on Sunday, April 5, with tours from 1 to 4 p.m. and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.
