She served in various assignments over her three years with the division, including serving as the Battalion S1 of the 30th Signal Battalion, the 556th Personnel Services Battalion and as the chief of plans and operations for the 25th Infantry Division G-1.
In 2006, she was selected to serve as the officer in charge of the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) Casualty Liaison Team at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. While she did so, her team provided 24-hour care and assistance for more than 2,000 ill or wounded soldiers and their families from all theaters of operations for 14 months.
Following her graduation from the Adjutant General’s Captains Career Course in Fort Jackson, S.C., Elder was assigned as the Battalion S1 for the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd “Greywolf” Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and for the battalion’s deployment to Mosul, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in December 2009.
