The completion date is now set for Sept. 12, after which it will be open for use.
Work on the site was delayed due to a number of issues, including damage to a fire alarm wire, the need to redo curbs for handicapped access and grading problems. It was originally scheduled to be done by the first day of school.
Meanwhile, more work is necessary for the Collicot and Cunningham schools. Workers will soon install a ventilation system in the basement ceiling, add noise reduction to rooftop ventilation units, and adjust the slope of an entrance ramp to the lower floor for ADA compliance.
Winchester said the School Building Committee has enough money to complete all remaining work in the more than $150 million project. He said the town only borrows funds it needs for the project and any remaining money would go toward debt.
A roof leak was recently discovered in the Cunningham School, though its exact location is yet unknown, according to Winchester. He said it should not be a difficult repair and that it may be part of the original roof, which is still under warranty.
