Milton Times Publisher Elected to NNA Board

10/28/10
Pat Desmond, publisher of The Milton Times, was elected to her first term as Region 1 director of the National Newspaper Association earlier this month.

The election was part of the convention of the 125-year-old organization in Omaha, Neb.

Cheryl Kaechele, past NNA president, appointed Desmond to fill the New England directorship last summer. She sought the three-year term in the annual election.

Liz Parker, recently elected president of the NNA, appointed Desmond to serve as co-chair of the Bylaws and Policies Committee and to work on the committee planning the organization’s Government Affairs Conference. The event, which will take place from July 20 to 23 in Washington, D.C., gives community newspaper leaders a chance to talk with federal officials about the issues important to the smaller newspapers of this country.

Desmond is working with Jim Haggerty, editor of The Waltham Daily Times, on a marketing plan for NNA growth in New England.

Desmond began her career as a reporter at The Patriot Ledger in 1966. She founded The Milton Times in 1995.

(The NNA board of directors meets four times a year. Next year the board will convene in Kansas City, Mo.; Newport, R.I.; Washington, D.C.; and Albuquerque, N.M.)
