The fastest woman in the race was Julie Spolidoro of Duxbury, who placed third overall at 36:21. Stephanie Hartwell was the town’s fastest woman runner, finishing at 48:23.
Milton runners represented the age groups well in the 10K race, as town runners placed first in several divisions. Justin Renz (39:46) finished first in the men’s 30–39 age group, Andrew Corley (44:54) was first in the 18–29 age group and Aaron Nemzer (45:52) won in the 1–17 age group for Milton.
Unfortunately, the 5K runners were directed down a wrong street and therefore did not run a full course. First place was awarded to Dorchester’s Reno Stirrat, who ran the correct route but finished fourth.
All but the first two of the 10K runners ran the correct course, but it did not affect the standings.
In the 5K race, Kevin Delaey of Arlington finished second at an even 17:00, followed closely by Braintree’s Nate Harding at 17:21. Brendan Saur was Milton’s fastest runner, placing seventh with a time of 18:17. The fastest woman from town was Maureen King, who finished at 22:39. King was second in her 30–39 age group and fellow Milton women Catherine Lawton and Yoshi Mukishima placed first and second respectively in the 1–17 age group.
Prizes were awarded, for both men and women, in the 10K for first place ($100), second ($75), third ($50), and the first resident finisher ($50). Eastern Mountain Sports donated a kayak rental for the first place men and women finishers in the 5K and 10K.
Aside from these two races, there was the Kids Fun Run and many activities for children to enjoy while the runners were competing. Dozens of sponsors—including the Turner Construction Company, Milton Police Department, Coldwell Banker, GKR Residential, Towne Tree & Landscaping, Curry Hardware, Fitness Unlimited, Hyde Park Pediatrics, Milton Hospital, Dolan Funeral Home, The Milton Barber Shop, Pat’s Pizza, The Toy Box, Rep. Walter Timilty, Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, Hyde Park Savings Bank, Will Sand/Canton, Eagle Farms, Milton Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, Atlantic Insurance and Financial Services, Body Benefits Spa, Cedar Grove Gardens and Mackie’s Barber Shop—provided support as well as food and drinks that were especially needed with the hot weather.
