“Mema’s Run,” a road race held Sept. 10 to benefit Milton Hospital, was a runaway winner.

The race, which began in front of Cunningham Elementary School, was dedicated to the memory of Milton resident Mary Gardiner, who died of brain cancer in 2001. All proceeds will be donated to the hospital.

Jason Bouffard, public relations manager for the hospital, said the event was a success, attracting more than 130 participants and raising an estimated $5,000. Among those who took part in the event were hospital President Joe Morrissey and Gardiner’s husband Paul.

“We thought it was a great event,” said Bouffard, who was among the participants. “There was a great turnout and we had perfect weather. They did a really good job organizing it and we’re really honored to be the beneficiary of the event.”
