“We’re expecting that the Boosters will have two more events scheduled,” said Gormley. “But it leaves us still with a huge number to raise.”
According to Gormley, Kate Sumner, a mother of two Milton High students, has been involved with school officials in trying to bring more advertising to Copeland Field House.
Sumner works for Full Contact Advertising in Boston and has two daughters at Milton High.
Full Contact is a firm that designs ads for national brands like Dunkin’ Donuts, Nike, Pepsi and Budweiser. They are located at 186 Lincoln St. in Boston.
Gormley called Sumner a “professional” who “knows what she’s doing.”
“Advertising is her profession,” she said.
“They are confident they can raise this money.”
However, School Committee Chair Beirne Lovely said the fundraising will still be a difficult task and officials shouldn’t promise anything.
“The window we’re looking at (for fundraising) is not a big one,” he said.
“I’m not saying we need to know in two weeks.
“But there will be a point when we need to either have that money in our hands or not.”
The athletic program depends on about $142,000 annually in fundraising to run teams year round.
Officials have said if they can’t raise the rest of that money they will have to cancel spring sports.
Gormley said talks are only tentative at this point with Full Contact.
Sumner was unwilling to comment for the record.
