Wendy Fox, spokesperson for the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), says with the governor’s backing she is confident the project will move forward. Funding is currently pending in the legislature in an energy and environmental bond bill.
Fox says work is scheduled to begin in November and would finish in the spring of 2010.
Whether the path will connect with the Neponset Greenway that starts at Central Avenue, and will eventually end near Castle Island in South Boston, is still up in the air. Officials are trying to determine if they can get access to the river from property owners. Options for continuation of the path on both the Milton side and the Mattapan side of the river are under consideration, according to Fox.
