“When the market gets tough, real estate gets very local,” he says. “It’s important to have an agent that will price correctly. You can’t just sell a home today. You have to sell the neighborhood and town it’s in.
It’s crucial.”
Rooney grew up in South Boston and moved to town a few years ago. He and his wife, Carolyn, have a daughter, Victoria, and an infant son, Nathan.
Though raising his young children has curtailed
his free time, Rooney likes to travel—especially
to warm-weather spots like Florida or the Caribbean. He’ll settle for Duxbury Beach or the Cape for
his beach time, however. He hardly misses a Red
Sox game.
Trying to fit it all in requires focus and that is where his classical music comes into play. He listened before exams during school and now indulges while driving. It started when he was away at boarding school, and his math teacher let him come up to his office after study hall and make hot dogs in the microwave.
“He was always listening to it,” Rooney says. “It was very relaxing for me. From that moment, whenever I would study or relax I would listen. It helps me with what I’m doing, whether reading or work.”
GKR’s Milton connection is important to
Rooney. He emphasizes that with local ownership
and employees who are residents, all the profits stay in town.
Rooney hopes his clients will learn that he and his agents are passionate about their work. He cites a recent home on Old Farm Road as an example.
“Upon listing the property, the listing agent, Matt Freeman, called Kevin Keating and I to help him move furniture around the home to prepare it for a broker’s open house the next day,” he says. “We were there 10 minutes later in our suits and ties which, more than anything we could say, told the owners that we were willing to do whatever we could to represent and sell their home.”
