The MJWC is planning to award $8,975—$1,500 more than last year—to several groups, including the Council On Aging, animal shelter, Trees for Milton, Friends of the Milton Public Library, Milton Early Childhood Alliance, Milton Community Food Pantry and the parks and recreation department.
The money comes from MJWC fundraisers, particularly its annual 5K and 10K road race, to be held this year on Tuesday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. Additional money was raised through a comedy night, pumpkin sale and other events.
“There are so many truly wonderful organizations in this town that care deeply about the community. It is an honor and a privilege for us to be able to support these initiatives. Milton is a very special place,” says MJWC Co-President Elaine Davis.
Cooperative Elder Services is an adult day health and Alzheimer’s day program located at 1200 Brush Hill Road.
“Our whole mission is to keep people out of nursing homes longer and safe at home,” says Kermond.
The program serves up to 28 people a day. The oven will allow some of the seniors to assist in baking pies, cakes and other baked goods to be enjoyed by all at snack time.
“I’m out of control excited,” says Judy Dempsey, the activity director there.
“I haven’t baked for a long time,” says Barbara Hurley, 78, one of the seniors who is looking forward to making use of the oven.
