A new gold medal lay side by side with a small worn button reading “Stop I-95” on John Cronin’s table in what he refers to as the “Milton room” at his home on a recent sunny afternoon.

The new medal inscribed with his name was issued the night before at a catered meal at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society (MassHort) Gardens at Elm Bank in Wellesley.

It signified his long standing work with MassHort done mostly since his retirement in 2002 after 34 years in public service as Milton’s town administrator.
