Dr. Brook Longmaid

One of the things that Dr. Brook Longmaid has enjoyed most for the past 17 years at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton (BID-Milton) is the stories he gets to hear.

As a radiologist, he is often called in to consult with other physicians at the community hospital and has found that even before they deal with imaging and test results, the doctor who ordered the procedure will usually have a story for him.

“More often than not, they will start out telling me a story about the patient. They know these people. It is so powerful,” Longmaid said. “It brings that person to life more than just looking at a bunch of images. You’re sharing the respect of them as individuals. That’s a very special part of being here. I think that what holds me here, first and foremost, is the people.”

Longmaid who has done international work on the value of good communication in health care, said that BID-Milton has a perfect combination of a commitment to caring about people in its community, and a broader connection to the broader BID network.

“Milton is a wonderful hospital,” he said. “It is really a gem.”
