M Dowling

Margaret M. (Donnelly) Dowling, 94, of Milton, formerly of South Boston and Jamaica Plain, passed away Dec. 21, 2018, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, she graduated from Girls High in Boston. She previously lived in South Boston for 50 years before moving to Milton in 2002.

Peg worked as a switchboard operator for American Telephone and Telegraph and First National Bank (Bank of America) before retiring. While living in South Boston, she was an active member of St. Augustine's Guild and a member of the Atlantic Street Mothers.

Peg enjoyed music, loved to dance, was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

For 13 years, Peg and her two sisters wintered on Marco Island with friends from South Boston and were fondly known as ‘’The Sisters.”

Peg was the beloved wife of the late Daniel J.; mother of Joanne Dowling of Milton, Nancy Dowling (Bondaryk) of Canton, Daniel J. Dowling Jr. of Somerville, Mary (Kane) O'Toole of South Boston, Clare Dowling Bennett of Liverpool, England, and Kevin M. Dowling of Marshfield; grandmother of Elizabeth, Matthew, and Samantha Bondaryk, Joseph Kane, and Stephen, Hannah, and Abigail Dowling; and sister of the late Bernard Donnelly, Rita Lahar, and Ann Kilroy.

Special thanks is given for the tender care and gentle support provided by Marie Laurent, Peg’s home health aide.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Elizabeth's Church in Milton. Burial was in Newton Cemetery.

Those who wish to make donations in Peg's memory may consider two of her favorite charities: Catholic TV, P.O. Box 9196, 34 Chestnut St., Watertown, MA 02471 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
